Private certificated kindergarten

 

GEKO is the first private kindergarten in Slovenia which integrates English language into everyday life. We use English as second language during dancing, art classes and all other activities since we are fully aware of the importance of early language teaching at such young age. All our working staff is fluent in English. GEKO is an "all inclusive" program for children from 11 months to 6 yeears old. GEKO have been chosen as a professional partner of the British International School of Ljubljana https://www.britishschool.si/  (accredited member of a Cambridge International School) in Slovenia.

 

GEKO private kindergarten was founded in the beginning of 2008 by the recognized educator Petra Tiefengraber, who transferred her own vision of a warm, safe, creative and multicultural home for children into Slovenian area. Along with her coworkers, she is trying her best to give children a happy place to evolve.

 

We offer children a very safe and relaxed environment where they gain new life experiences with the help of all workers. The life in our kindergarten is full of different activities; we play a lot, sing, create, have fun exercising and take walks in nature. But most of all we are trying to focus on positive things in life, calm relations between people, kindness, creativity and understanding.

 

We are especially focused on the principle of multiculturalism, because we want to offer our children as many options as possible at learning new languages since we are aware of the importance of being tolerant towards other different cultures. It is very important for the children to feel English as something fun and not as obligation. Beside songs, rhymes and playful tunes, we also tend to do as much everyday conversations in English as possible.

 

We say good morning in English and count all the spoons and plates on the table in English, the children are in full contact with the foreign language all the time they are in our kindergarten. We are also trying to show the children some cultural differences at bigger national holidays. That is why we celebrate Halloween, Easter and Christmas with traditional English songs and traditions beside the well known Slovenian ones.

 

The children in our kindergarten are divided into two groups and stay in our kindergarten until they start schooling, which is usually at the age of 6.

 

We are convinced that the children learn the most from direct experience, which is also the reason for many of our activities that take place outside of the kindergarten. We practice a lot of sports (swimming, tennis, climbing, cycling and dancing). We also visit the most important cultural centers in Slovenia as national galleries, cinema, puppet theatre and many more. With the older group we tend to take different sport classes and also go to an overnight trip to the seaside or mountains. We visit many famous Slovenians and also invite some of them (athletes, actors…) to come and see where we spent such great time – our kindergarten.
